Cuff-Corsets – The Street Style Trend Sweeping Fashion Week
You’ve been lacing up your shoes all wrong
This summer, we witnessed a renaissance of the anklet. Natural pearls from Anissa Kermiche, talismans from Alighieri; and everyone from Tohum to Isabel Marant hopped aboard the cowry shell train.
But as the clouds set in and we slowly consider re-sheathing our lower limbs, anklets are being retired in favour of a new ankle-bound trend.
Cuff-corseting is quickly establishing itself as the new way to wear shoes.
#NewBottega fans rejoice, this styling trick was born of a resort 2020 Bottega Veneta look book.
Since Daniel Lee joined Bottega a year ago, the brand’s hit a number of excellent high notes, with the mesh pumps and quilted mules, in particular, appearing on just about everybody.
And now, thanks to stylist Marie Chaix, the resort 2020 lookbook has served as a jumping off point for a Autumn/Winter’s answer to the anklet. Cuff-corseting involves lacing up your pumps’ ankle ties over the top of your trousers, creating a cuff out of an otherwise straight or wide-leg.
Fashion influencers like Chiara Ferragni and Pernille Teisbaek were quick to hop on the trend, but with celebrities such as Hailey Baldwin and Kylie Jenner showcasing their take on it, we can be sure of the cuff-corset’s mainstream potential.
Unexpected advantage: as wide-legged trousers aren’t going anywhere, this is a great trick to try for when the heavens suddenly open and you don’t want rain soaking in all the way up to the knee. Practical as well as pretty.
